Breaking 100/Short-Game Essentials

Education Event at Tilden, August 16
 Join us at Tilden Park Golf Course in the Berkeley Hills at 10:30am on Sunday, August 16 for a one hour clinic to review the essential short-game strokes: putting, chipping and bunker play. Cost has been reduced to $40.

Hiddenbrooke Results
August 1, 2009
 17 NEB members teed it up on Saturday, August 1 at Hiddenbrooke Golf Course in Vallejo. We played Modified Net Stableford (players get points for net scores on each hole from a bogey to double eagle).
Sandi Heine won the Stableford competition with 34 points.
Closest to the pin on hole #3 was Pat Block at 8' 10"; closest to the pin on hole #17 was Kathleen Orloff at 7' 7".

For the following Sundays in August, Hiddenbrooke golf course will be available to EWGA-SMN along with the NE Bay Chapter for $65 including cart for 18 holes of golf. California Cup
October 17 & 18 at Bayonet Golf Course
 The California Cup, a competition of all California chapters of the EWGA, will be held this year on October 17 & 18. Both rounds of the tournament will be played on the Bayonet Course and will be played from the Red Tees. You can get hole-by-hole information from the web site: www.bayonetblackhorse.com.
Each chapter puts together a team of up to 12 players. We would like to know how many of you might be interested in being on the NEB team. Please contact Barbara Competello by the first of September.
The competition consists of 2 days of golf. Day 1 is teams of 2 playing either alternate shot or best ball, and day 2 is individual match play. All play is based on handicap, so depending on who you are playing against, you may get strokes on one or more holes. GPS devices are allowed. You do not have to sign up with a playing partner - Barbara should be able help you put a 2 person team together.
The $330 cost for the competition covers 2 days of golf, the Friday evening reception, the Saturday barbecue, and the Sunday awards luncheon.
You can also choose to play in the "Fun Golf Tournament", which will be held on the Blackhorse Course. Non-members and men are welcome to play this event. The women will play from the Red Tees and the men from the White tees as this will equalize the competition in the "Fun Tournament". The players playing Blackhorse will have tee times both days starting shortly after 8:00 am. The CA Cup event will be 8:00 am shotgun start both days. The cost of Fun Play is $220 and covers golf, the Friday reception, Saturday BBQ, and Sunday awards luncheon.
Practice rounds may be scheduled up to 30 days in advance with no reservation fee. More that 30 days in advance will incur a registration fee. The practice round fee will be $95 anytime during the day for each player and this includes range balls and cart. When making the reservation, MAKE SURE TO TELL THE PRO-SHOP THAT YOU ARE PART OF THE EWGA TOURNAMENT. Otherwise, you will not get the discounted inclusive rate.
This is as much a fun event as a competition. It's a great opportunity to meet members of other chapters from all over the state. And it's an opportunity to test yourself in match play. Last year, our chapter had only 8 members out of a possible 12. Even so, our team did better than a number of chapters with a full 12-member team. We hope you'll join us at this year's event!

2009 CVS/Pharmacy Challenge Volunteer
The LPGA will be returning to Blackhawk the week of September 21-27. The past two years our EWGA chapter has been in charge of the marshals for hole #9, led by Alice Miller. Signups are now open online and if we get enough people we can once again volunteer to take hole #9.
When signing up please be sure to note you are EWGA. We will accept anyone with golf experience, they do not have to be an EWGA member. Alice asks that you email her to let her know you have signed up so she can make sure you are working with the EWGA team.
