CHAPTER CHAMPIONSHIP
GET READY TO COMPETE!
Messages from past competitors

We'd like to encourage everyone to participate in the Championship ... following are messages from some of our past competitors.

Pat Block:  I've competed in four prior Championships, twice on scramble teams and twice individually.  The first time was a bit scary to start but I had great time and even though I didn't win, I ended up going to the semifinals as an alternate, which was a blast! Competing has really helped my game and my confidence.  It was the Chapter Championship experience that  gave me the courage to start competing in NCGA events which in turn has enhanced my game and enjoyment of golf.   Give it a try and see how it helps your game and your self confidence.

Starla Chimienti: This year will be my third year to compete in the chapter championship. Last year was really fun because I won my flight and I went on to compete in the semi-finals. There I met a gal from the Sonoma/Marin chapter and now we play several times a month. She brings her friends and I bring mine and we have this big group of golfing buddies.  I remember being really nervous the first time I competed. I think what made me the most nervous was the rules. I was afraid I would be disqualified because of some silly rule. As it turned out, every time there was a question about a rule, the tournament rules officials were right there to clarify it.  I've learned a number of rules since then but there are always more to learn.

Laurie Kehl:  When I played in my first Chapter Championship, I had a handicap of 35. It never would have occurred to me to enter a competition, if it wasn't for my EWGA friends encouraging me to do so. Playing against your buddies in the Chapter Championship was one thing, but getting all the way to Nashville, Tennessee, and having your name, city, and, state announced on the first tee was quite another.  I met some great ladies from all over the country, saw Nashville which I would probably have never seen on my own, and learned a lot about myself and just how well I perform under pressure (not so good that day....).  I'm here to encourage the high handicappers! It's really fun!

Ginny Taylor:  The second year I was a member of EWGA I was on a "scramble team". We had such a good time getting to know and encouraging each other.  We just had fun!  It took the pressure off competing as we knew we were a "team".  In fact, we ended up winning and went on to sectionals.  It is a great way to build confidence in your game and learn from other players.

Jane Taylorson:  I've competed four times now, three individually and once on a scramble team.  I never had any competitive experience before - and I mean 50 plus years of absolutely none - zip - nada.  The first time I signed up because I had heard that we didn't have enough member participation.  I certainly didn't expect to win, but I managed to play a reasonable round of golf and much to my surprise, I won low gross.  I lost the next year, but "survived" the experience (105 degrees at Paradise).  The year after that I was on a scramble team - somehow we squeaked out a win and went on the the sectionals in Reno.  Two years ago I played again as a single and won the chapter event and the sectionals, so I went on to the finals in Tennessee.  That was an amazing experience - I met and played with women from Alabama, New York, Washington, New Jersey.  The Championship has been a real learning experience for me, and I encourage everyone to try it at least once.  You'll be amazed at how much fun it is.

ADDITIONAL NOTE:  There was a little misunderstanding about Franklin's discount.  THERE ARE NO COUPONS - information on how to sign up for a discounted round is here.
