MORE Volunteers
at LPGA Blackhawk Submitted by
Alice Miller,
President EWGANEB
I
inadvertantly left out some very deserving EWGA NEB volunteers
in last week's eblast.
Ginny Taylor, Gloria Speth, Margaret Hamersley,
Marcella De La Cruz, and Patty Deutsche
also volunteered. My apologies.
Margaret volunteered as a marshal. Marcella worked
transportation, transporting players, caddies, and volunteers around
the course.
Patty worked as a standard bearer and said: "Yes, I would
definately do it again, but would be better prepared next year (like
bringing gloves and warm clothes in the morning). The first
day I walked with Cindy Rarick, Cindy Pechesek and
Becky Iverson. On Saturday I walked with
Soo Moon and Carin Koch. It
was a great chance to see the golf up close, see how they make
decisions, how much they rely on their caddies (how can I get one of
those!?), and see what divas some of them seem to be. Also, if
you pick an early team, you are free after noon to watch all the
great players!
"Being a standard bearer wasn't tough. Carrying a
10-pound sign is not, in itself, difficult - you have a harness --
and walking 18 holes is not hard -- although the palyers keep a
pretty good pace and my heart did thump a few times! What a
strain was the wind blowing the standard. Today is the first
day I have full range of motion in my neck (10 days later)!
And the players give you signed balls at the end of the game -- how
cool is that?" |
Kepler's Great People and Super
Service
Submitted by Alice
Miller I had been thinking about getting a new
driver and planned to go test a few when all of a sudden
tradgedy struck...my beloved Cobra driver shaft cracked and had to
be replaced. (There's a lesson for you all as well, don't
leave your clubs in the car in the heat of summer.) So my
choice was to either spend the $100+ to replace the shaft
or rapidly proceed with the new driver purchase.
I felt confident that I wanted another Cobra since mine had
virtually changed my game; but I was not certain which driver would
best suit me. I had also been told by a couple women in our
chapter that maybe I should have a senior shaft because of my
swing.
To help me make the decision I thought I should go for a driver
fitting, off to Kepler's I went.
We started by discussing what I liked about my current driver
and what I was looking to improve. Next I tested several
drivers while a camera was honed on the impact of the club on a golf
ball to determine the golf club speed and how/where I was striking
the ball.
I found I liked the Ping, but psychologically I really wanted
another Cobra driver. Kepler's does not carry
Cobra, and I was totally shocked when Darrel brought out a Cobra
catalog and searched for the specifics for the Cobra driver that met
my fitting requirements. I had to special order the driver and
brought it back to Kepler's to be cut down since
the shaft did not come short enough to fit my needs.
Kepler's is a great place with excellent
service. Stop in and let them help you tune up your game... www.keplersgolf.com (located near highways 24/680

California Cup
Results September
29-30
Some of our members attended the EWGA
California Cup at Bayonet/Blackhorse Golf Course in Monterey
last month.
Here is what some had to say:
Nancy Seibert:
Donna Wagner and I won
our team match and both lost our individual matches. It was a
lot of fun playing against someone who is your exact handicap in
match play. On my individual match we were down to the last
putt on the 18th hole to decide who won the match!
Unfortunately, I missed my putt and my opponent won. It was
really fun though.
Trish Powell:
Barb (Barbara Competello)
and I won our first match and I won my individual match the second
day. But I have to admit, I don't recall the specific
scores. I had a good time, but it was a very tough
venue.
Gloria Speth also won her match.
All had a great time. Lora Lee Del
Rosario won at auction Paula Creamer
sunglasses and pink carrying bag. Patricia
Ramirez won at raffle a "Be the Ball" throw
(blanket).
We hope to see more members participate in 2008

| Lone Tree GC
Results
Our event last Saturday was at
Lone Tree Golf Course
in Antioch. It started out cool and windy on the
hilly front nine but the back nine warmed up nicely and was much
more flat with some elevated tees.
While no one claimed an eagle, Mary
Ann Pate, Dorene Davis, and Lisa
Fox all had no putt chips-ins!
Meredith Pence won closest-to-the-pin on hole #11,
the 120 yard par 3. Ginny Taylor won fewest
putts (including 10 one-putts!). Margaret
Hamersley won most strokes on this 5,586 yard course with a
rating/slope of 72.1/126.
Only two 18-hole events left this year! Don't miss
them!
