Franklin Clinic - Lunch, Lessons and 9 Holes

golf clinic As eighteen members (including 7 new members) gathered for this event last Saturday, anticipation was high and the weather was perfect.  The day began with three - 45 minute mini clinics on putting, chipping and full swing.

The putting clinic had us using a wooden putting board to help guide our stroke on short putts and a string to help us visualize the line on longer putts.

The chipping clinic gave us an opportunity to practice our chipping skills, and the full swing station provided us with some tips on improving our swing.  In addition, we had a chance to see ourselves in action with a side-by-side video comparison and analysis of our own swing next to Annika's swing!

After the clincs we gathered for a quick sandwich, to refuel and relax, before we headed out to the course to try out the new skills we learned.  We had a great time playing 9 holes and it was fantastic to see all of the new members out there, too.  At the end of the day, as we headed towards our cars, the smiles were big and the spirits were high.  The perfect ending to a great day of golf!

A big THANK YOU goes out to Alice Miller for arranging the fun filled, educational day we had at Franklin.

Seeking Two 9-hole Coordinators
New Chapter Program for Monarch Bay

Looking We are looking for two members who would be willing to share the coordination of a new chapter program for "9-holers" at the Marina course at Monarch Bay in San Leandro.  We hope to do this on the 3rd Sunday of every month, with a 30-minute clinic by John Bearden, golf pro, followed by 9-hole play - all for a cost of $22!

Before this great opportunity can become a reality, we need 2 volunteers to:
  • track web signups from members
  • communicate with John as to the numbers participating each month
  • participate in the clinics and play
  • encourage chapter participants
  • and enjoy being a part of EWGA!
If you are interested in helping, contact Ann Marie McGee, leadership@ewganeb.org

Cindy Maxim -
New Chapter Championship Chair!

Cindy Maxim The 2007 Chapter Championship will be held on June 30th on the Blue Rock Springs - west course in Vallejo.  Our Chapter Championship is the first step of the EWGA 2007 Championship which is the largest amateur golf event in the U.S. for women.

Cindy Maxim has stepped up and volunteered to chair this event for this year.

She would like to find a co-chair who would be willing to volunteer for this year and then chair the championship for next year.

And she would also like to have 3 additional volunteers for the committee.

Everyone - except for the chair person - can play the championship.  This is great experience for charity and business events in your future.  And a great way to help the chapter.

Interested?  Contact Cindy Maxim at handicaps@ewganeb.org

Don't delay!  Planning needs to get underway!

Non-Conforming Clubs?
Did you know?

There are some clubs that are not allowed to be used in competition play.  It's true!  In fact, the USGA also has a list of "conforming golf balls" to be used in competition play.  A list of conforming and non-conforming clubs can be found on the USGA web site - www.usga.org
