Teeing Ground
What's the Rule?
Teed ball

Where in the teeing ground can you tee up your ball? In compliance with Rule 11, you may tee your ball anywhere between the tee markers, or a little behind them as much as two club lengths. Note that it is the ball that must lie in between the markers, not your feet. A penalty of one stroke is incurred for infraction of this rule.

If your ball accidentally falls off the tee before you have addressed it, you may replace it without penalty. Further, before making a stroke on the teeing ground, if a player makes a practice swing and accidentally knocks the ball off the tee with the club, there is no penalty.

However, if a player tees her ball within the teeing ground and makes a stroke at the ball but misses it, the ball is still in play and the stroke counts. If she addresses the ball again and accidentally knocks it off the tee, the player incurs a penalty stroke and must replace the ball.
